INTRODUCTION
As a mom, have you ever wondered how you can make family time fun during Thanksgiving? How can you create memories or even family Traditions during Thanksgiving? Have you considered some family traditions you would like your family to have? The joy of creating these traditions can be a source of excitement and inspiration for you and your family.
Thanksgiving is an opportunity to spend time with family. As a mom, you want your child or children to feel safe, to be loved, to have special family memories, and to be healthy. Of course, there is more that we want for our children, and it varies from mother to mother, but what are some things you want your kids to remember during Thanksgiving?
I have lovely parents, and I am thankful for them. However, I want to have more family traditions for my children.
Today, I will discuss several ways to create fun memories for your children during Thanksgiving.
Creating Memorable Family Traditions This Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a beautiful opportunity to start new traditions you will carry down for generations. It is a time for gratitude and reflection while with family. Whether your family is looking to add new traditions to celebrate, or if it's your first Thanksgiving as a family, here are five ways to make this holiday unforgettable.
1. Thanksgiving Day Gratitude Jar
Why it's special:
Not only will this tradition focus on gratitude and reflection, this fantastic option will help increase communication skills among family members.
How to do it:
Provide a jar, bowl, hat, something to put small pieces of paper, and pens. Have everyone write down what they are thankful for and read them out loud to the family. The gratitude jar will help the family engage in conversations and bring your family closer together.
2. Thanksgiving Memory Book
Why it's special:
A Thanksgiving Memory Book is a great way to collect stories and highlight specific memories. Take photos of the family and place them in a book. My husband has photos in a book of his grandparents' anniversary party. They were key role models in his life in his younger years. Although they have passed away, he still mentions them often.
How to do it:
There are several ways to do this. You can buy a scrapbook and scrapbook paper to put your photos on. Some people also make digital scrapbooks by uploading their photos, and the book is sent to them in the mail.
3. Thanksgiving Day Family Photos
Why it's special:
This is similar to a photo memory book, but it features the whole family posing instead of just a few family members and their photos. There are also fewer photos. You do not need a book; however, you could use a photo frame to display the image.
How to do it:
To make the Thanksgiving Day Family Photos special, you can coordinate matching outfits or have a specific spot where you take the photo every year. On my dad's side, we have a tradition of taking one photo of the whole family. We take a photo of everyone outside in front of my cousin's house.
4. Thanksgiving Tic-Tac-Toe Coloring Placemat
Why it's special:
This is a fun way for children to get involved in Thanksgiving fun. It's a way to entertain them if they are taking a break from playing and gives them a creative outlet.
How to do it:
You can download a Thanksgiving-themed coloring placemat that includes activities such as games and drawings or is just for coloring purposes. I have several Thanksgiving-themed coloring placemats that you can purchase. You can find my Thanksgiving-themed coloring placemat on my Etsy shop Rubiesfunprints.
5. Cooking or Baking Together
Why it's special:
Preparing the food is not only great for a bonding experience but can also relieve stress from just one person preparing the food. The shared cooking experience can bring a sense of connection to your family.
How to do it:
Involve the kids in the cooking and baking process. The kids can be involved in cooking in many ways, whether stirring a certain food, making pies, rolling out dough, or just setting the table.
I discussed five family traditions or memories you can create for your family during Thanksgiving time. The gratitude jar will increase conversation, family photos are great for keepsakes, a memory book or scrapbook is excellent for preserving memories, a Thanksgiving-themed coloring placemat is a fun way for the kids to entertain themselves, and cooking and baking are ways for them to be involved.
I know that as moms, getting ready for Thanksgiving day can be challenging and stressful, whether it is at your house or someone else's. These suggestions can offer you a way to look forward to Thanksgiving dinner. Not only will you look forward to Thanksgiving, but you and your kids will have special memories of taking part in some of these traditions.
